2016 Cadillac CTS sedan

Standing out in the luxury sedan segment these days is a tough nut to crack. The best and brightest are firing on all cylinders in Germany, Japan, the U.S. and beyond, so even a big luxury name like Cadillac has to stay on top of its game to maintain its market share and try to grow.

The CTS, a longstanding model from America’s most well-known luxury car maker, gets some fresh life with the 2016 model, which is just starting to roll out of factories.

I got the chance to explore what the CTS has to offer in this new incarnation, from its design to its seemingly endless tech features, and I’m back with a full report.

Some engines purr, some scream, and some growl in what almost sounds like an angry fashion.

After a week in this beast of a ride, I’m back with a full report on what it has to offer.

The high-end interior of the 2015 Lexus LS460 is one of its best selling points

The world of luxury vehicles is not a one-size-fits-all scene.

Some people want a sporty little luxury ride to drive away from others in style, some folks with larger families seek out the biggest SUV they can find that is fully decked-out in decadence.

Then there’s a happy medium, the luxury sedan, and within that category there’s everything from small sedans (often chosen by those just starting dabble in luxury vehicles) to full-size roomy sedans. Lexus has all categories covered with a bevy of options, and I recently was able to test out Lexus’ full-size sedan -- the 2015 Lexus LS460.

I’m back with a full report of my week in the LS460 and what it offers compared to its luxury competitors.

Additional Info

  • Vehicle: 2015 Lexus LS460
  • Price as tested: Base price: $72,520 Price as tested: $80,630
  • Best feature: Extra smooth and quiet ride, handcrafted luxury inside, fast braking
  • Rating: 4 out of five stars
  • Who will want this vehicle?: Full-size luxury sedan buyers who prefer the Lexus style over its competitors

The 2015 Subaru Outback wagon continues the automaker's trademark of being a safety leader

Subaru is not your average automaker, doing its own thing and not following industry trends for some time now, and blazing trails in the area of safety along the way. Subaru fans are not a huge group in the U.S. (the automaker’s market share is in the low single digits), but they are fiercely loyal -- and always come back for more; which is why that market share number has been growing in recent years.

Among the new vehicles they have out that aim to increase the reach of Subaru even further is the 2015 Subaru Outback, which I recently got to spend some time driving.

The Outback is a wagon -- a rarity in today’s automotive world dominated by sedans and SUVs/crossovers. I’m back with a full report on the Outback and what Subaru has brought to the table with this redesign for 2015.

Additional Info

  • Vehicle: 2015 Subaru Outback
  • Price as tested: Base price: $24,895 Price as tested: $30,111
  • Best feature: Roomy interior, strong on safety, decent off-road capability
  • Rating: 4 out of five stars
  • Who will want this vehicle?: Those looking for a wagon and want a safe, roomy and versatile vehicle -- but aren’t expecting maximum power

The 2015 Lexus GS350 packs some serious power and a sporty ride

Among the luxury automakers, Lexus is one of the most prolific -- with models in pretty much all the different segments. Among those offerings is their midsize sedan, the GS350 -- which features some pretty stiff competition in the luxury ranks: Audi A6, BMW M5, Cadillac CTS, Infiniti QX70, among others.

I recently spent a week in a 2015 Lexus GS350 and I’m back with a full report on how it measures up.

Additional Info

  • Vehicle: 2015 Lexus GS350
  • Price as tested: Base price: $48,600 Price as tested: $60,185
  • Best feature: High quality interior, powerful motor
  • Rating: 4 out of five stars
  • Who will want this vehicle?: Families looking for a powerful and luxurious midsize sedan

2015 Chrysler 300S

You can’t always judge a book by its cover -- Exhibit A is the 2015 Chrysler 300S.

At first glance it’s attractive and high-class looking, and roomy enough for a small family; but you wouldn’t expect it to do what it can do -- and once you drive it you’ll find out that what it can do is fly.

Additional Info

  • Vehicle: 2015 Chrysler 300S
  • Price as tested: $41,580
  • Best feature: This sucker is fast (V8 HEMI fast); not your average family sedan
  • Rating: 4 out of five stars
  • Who will want this vehicle?: Those in the market for a full-size sedan who want something with a bit of pizzazz and power
